Scheer

I have a feeling that Scheer will leave us pining for the ‘good ol’ days’ of Harper austerity and cruelty. Scheer is called “Harper with a smile” but I actually think Scheer will be even more cruel and mean-spirited than Harper. Scheer’s a zealot, a true believer. Scheer can say with a straight face that we can address climate change by simply widening the roads. He’ll make science-denier Harper look like Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Harper was a wooden but diabolical operator, I think Andrew Scheer is a gormless, dim-witted bully who owes a lot of favours to religious extremists and social conservatives.
I’m absolutely terrified by this election after watching the systematic dismantling of education, healthcare and social services in Ontario. Ford has measurably impacted our family’s quality of life in every way possible. I shudder to think how much worse it is going to be with Scheer at the helm.
As a woman, I’m even more worried. Asked if any of his policies help to protect the rights of women, Scheer couldn’t name one. He’s been public about loosening gun laws including making it easier for people to buy hand guns – one of his largest supporters is the Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights (CCFR). 249 people were killed by guns in 2018, 65% of them by handguns. Perhaps it is the American in Scheer. Guns = good.
For those who think the Conservatives are all about debt reduction, Harper-led governments ran a string of six straight deficits between 2008-09 and 2013-14. Harper cut services for average Canadians while driving up the deficits. That was a neat trick. Like a company going into debt while failing to pay its employees… (where did the money go?). If we all vote Conservative we get to see them do it that again …while average Canadians suffer.
